Peggy Watkins

Peggy Watkins is a professional sporting and wildlife artist residing in Charleston, SC (formerly Atlanta until 2013). Her elegant representational oil paintings can be found in collections across the country.

Select honors include being selection as the 2008 featured artist at the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition held in Charleston, SC. Peggy is represented by Meredith Long and Company, in Houston, TX, and The Sportsman’s Gallery in Charleston, SC and Beaver Creek Colorado. Additionally, Holland & Holland, maker of fine sporting guns, has selected Peggy’s work to exhibit in their New York and London gunrooms.

Sporting art is the predominant subject matter of Peggy’s work. The interest began in 2003 when she was invited to a plantation in south Georgia to observe the finer points of quail hunting. Amazed at the intelligence and intensity of the bird dogs in action she decided that was something she wanted to capture. Since that first visit, she has spent a great deal of time bird hunting in the US and abroad. African and North American animals give Peggy inspiration as well. She and her husband had a private residence in Zambia for several years.

Peggy has a signature style which she describes as impressionistic realism.  As you view her work, you will come to recognize that she captures the essence of her subject while her bold use of color and strong brush strokes create a powerful and lasting impact on the imagination.
