Melanie Fain is a Texas native whose work reflects her life-long passion for nature. For over 30 years, Melanie has brought the beauty and drama of nature to her collectors offering them an intimate view of the natural world. “I grew up hunting, fishing, and watching birds and wildlife. I have always enjoyed the natural world and it remains my inspiration.” Melanie makes her home in the Texas Hill Country and continues to explore natural areas across the country using her camera to document her experiences, providing valuable reference from which to work in the quiet of her studio.
Utilizing the technique of Intaglio printmaking sets Melanie’s work apart from other well-known painting genres, offering her patrons her unique vision. With an emphasis on birds, bugs and botanicals, Melanie translates her sensitive perceptions into beautiful etchings, often hand finished with watercolor or pastel. She uses a ‘less is more’ philosophy striving to capture attitude and personality through simplicity and strong design. “I want my work to reflect the simple pleasure of looking at nature.”
Melanie’s dedication to her art has lead to inclusion in national and international exhibitions including Western Visions and Birds in Art. Her work has been featured in numerous books and publications including Gray’s Sporting Journal. Her work can be found in many private and corporate collections across the country including: Woodson Art Museum, Southwest Airlines, Cox Communications, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, Kelley School of Business at Indiana University, and the renowned King Ranch in Kingsville, Texas. Melanie is a signature member of the Society of Animal Artists and Artists for Conservation.
“I have always been drawn to nature – it is my livelihood, my recreation, my comfort, my home. It is who I am and what I know best.” ~ Melanie Fain
